Hatfield House NOW REPLACED BY AUDLEY END
Wednesday 26 June 2019

Hatfield House is steeped in Elizabethan and Jacobean history. One can enjoy historical artefacts collected over the centuries by the Cecil familyy, in company with renowned textiles, furniture and works of art. You ccan ccatch a glimpse of the iconic Rainbow Portrait of Queen Elizabeth 1. Also discover the storey below stairs, in the recently restored kitchen, as the staff prepared for Queen Victoria's visit and banquet in1846.

The Picture perfect garden dates from the early 17th century when Robert Cecil employed John Tradescant the Elder to collect plants for his new home. Tradescant travelled all over Europe to bring back trees, which had not been grown previously in England, crafting and inspiring the fragrant gardens which can be explored today.

There will be a guided tour of the House lasting approximately an hour, special access to the private East Garden of the Salisbury family, as well as to the normally open West Garden and Park. Hatfield Old Town and the Old Church are immediately accessible from the adjacent stable yard.  Lunch will be available for purchase within the courtyard at either River Cottage restaurant or the Bistro
